PROBA-V puts its weekly spotlight on the beautiful city of Vienna, the capital of Austria, visible in the northwestern part of the image. The city began as a settlement to the south of the meandering Danube, one of Europe’s longest rivers, but spans both sides of the river nowadays. In the southern part of the image we see Lake Neusiedl, a Central European lake straddling the Austrian–Hungarian border. The lake is mostly surrounded by reeds, serving as a habitat for wildlife and harvested in winter.
