The false-colour image of 21 April 2015 showed us the Champagne region, in the northeast of France. The area is best known for the production of the sparkling white wine that bears the region's name. EU law and the laws of most countries reserve the term "Champagne" exclusively for wines that come from this region located about 160 km east of Paris. This area covers 33,500 hectares of vineyards around 319 villages that are home to 5,000 growers who make their own wine and 14,000 growers who only sell grapes. The western/northern blue spot is 'Reims', in the centre of the image 'Châlons-en-Champagne' and below the city of ‘Troyes’. Three lakes can be seen: lac d'Orient, lac du Temple and lac du Der-Chantecoq (from bottom to top). Those artificial lakes have been created to protect Paris against floods in the 60's and 70's.
