On 6 August 2015, a second Suez Canal was opened by Egyptian Prime Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The 70 km long canal was dredged by international consortiums, with contributions from the Belgian companies Jan De Nul Group and DEME and was completed in only one year.
