The Senegal River is 1,800 km long and borders Senegal from Mauritania. It flows into the Atlantic Ocean near the city of Saint-Louis. The river has two large dams along its course, the multi-purpose Manantali Dam in Mali and the Maka-Diama Dam on the Mauritania-Senegal border. The image shows the Senegal river flowing westward towards the Atlantic Ocean, with the Sahara desert to the north. Further, several irrigation fields are located along the river, with the most extensive fields between Lac de Guiers and the Senegal River in the center of the image.
