Vanuatu is an Oceanian archipelago, consisting of 82 islands of volcanic origin, located in the South Pacific Ocean. The area of the islands is roughly 12,000 square km and the total population is 267,000. The country was hit by category 5 cyclone Pam on 13 and 14 March 2015, which rendered 65,000 people homeless. The image shows the cyclone in its full extent on 12 March, one day before making landfall.
